Our Pastor
Our minister is the Revd Dr John Tattersall. John
came to us from England where he has been a Baptist
Minister for 40 years.
Trained for ministry at Spurgeon’s College,
London John holds the University of London Diploma
in Theology; Open University Bachelor of Arts; University
of Manchester Master of Arts in Theology; Trinity
Theological Seminary, Newburg, Indiana, USA Doctor
of Ministry. John has served in five churches in UK
and was an On Line Tutor at Spurgeon’s College.
We have known John since 1991 when he and our then
minister, Dr David Matthews, shared a pulpit exchange. John describes his approach to ministry in the following
way:
“I take a conservative evangelical position
in theology which centers in the sovereignty of
God and the uniqueness of Jesus Christ.
• I believe the Bible is the Word of God
which reveals God and directs Christian living.
• I believe there must be preaching for conversion and
baptism. Christian baptism is the baptism of the
believer. A person becomes a Christian when Christ comes into
a life through the Holy Spirit. The believer is
equipped by the Holy Spirit with gifts for living and service
(holiness).
• I believe in the personal, visible return of the Lord
Jesus Christ.
• I believe the Christian Church is God's elect in all
places and through all ages. This is expressed
through the local congregation.
• I believe in the priesthood of all believers and in
the ordained ministry to Word and Sacrament. This
involves being equipped to teach the Word of God
and, in a variety of ways, helping people in their pilgrimage
and leading in congregational worship. While other
than the ordained minister may lead worship, preach
and administer the sacraments with the authority
and agreement of the church, it should normally be the
task and always the responsibility of the minister.
• I believe that worship should be ordered, dignified
and enthusiastic, but within order there can be
freedom and spontaneity.”
John would love to welcome you to Christ Community
Church whether you come as a visitor, an inquirer
into the Faith or looking for a spiritual home by
